I have been working with Cathy's Critters for events in McKinney, Plano, and Allen since 2008 and wouldn't recommend anyone else. Professional and friendly, I have never once had any issue scheduling a petting zoo. In fact they make it super easy! These amazing people know what they are doing and they make it evident throughout the process of set up, your event, and tear down. I truly believe their animals are happy and taken care of. In fact, when working in Plano they must have a permit to set up and I've been told by more than one animal services officer just how amazing Cathy's Critters is, just confirming what I already know.
Pros: the animals are adorable, the price is great, everyone was very nice, it is easy to find even if a bit out of town, the animals appear relatively healthy except a wallaby that had a bit of a limp.
Cons: parts are filthy, some animals are kept in cages ridiculously too small- a ferret in divided cage that gives it maybe 8"x8"? really? And the kids in the petting zoo area were not being monitored at all, forcing bunnies to flee in terror when not being manhandled or dropped. There was a person in there, she just was making no effort to regulate things.
It was easy setting up everything we wanted, including specifying the brand hot dogs served. They took care of everything for us, so all we had to do was show up. Our daughter loved it and her friends all left wanting to have their next parties here.
We hired Cathy's Critters for my daughter's first birthday party and absolutely LOVED them!!!!! They are extremely professional, punctual, and kind! Laurie got to our house at 4 to set up for our 4 - 4:30 reservation. The set up was very organized and the animals were all treated well. The adults and children all LOVED the adorable animals!! We got the Babies for Babies package and it was more than sufficient for our party. The baby pig was a huge hit. We will definitely use them again and highly recommend them!!
Some of the young staff is not very knowledgeable about some of the animals. But they seem like good kids and enjoy their job. But I love to take my son here when they have open farm days. They have a nice variety of baby animals here that you can bring your small ones to enjoy!
I really can't decide if I will go back. Give it a deep cleaning, give the animals proper space, and get your staff to monitor things better and I would certainly come back and recommend it to others!
Ok so I have mixed feelings about this place.
We had the most fabulous birthday party for our daughter on her 8th birthday. Since the weather is unpredictable in December, we opted to rent the big barn onsite, and it was fortunate we did! The temperature dropped 30-40 degrees to below freezing, but we were toasty warm with the area heaters and homemade hot chocolate. The cookout around the campfire at twilight got cut short because of the bitter cold, but they made sure we were taken care of by moving everything else inside.
